So I've had a 55 gallon running for about 3 months now. Started with just a couple electric blue acaras (my LFS guy swore they were chill). Then last weekend I saw these gorgeous yellow labs and just... bought two. Didn't research first, I know, I know.
Now I'm reading that mixing South American and African cichlids is basically a no-go? Something about water params being totally different (hard vs soft) and the aggression levels not matching up. The acaras seem fine so far but the labs are already chasing everybody at feeding time.
My pH is sitting around 7.4 which I guess is somewhere in the middle of what both want? Or is that just making everyone miserable equally lol.
Anyone here actually keep a mixed tank long term or am I setting myself up for a disaster? Should I just pick a lane and rehome one group?
